Installation of ODI 12.2 on Centos 7.4 – Part 2 – ODI Installation

Following previous post Installation of ODI 12.2 on Centos 7.4 – Part 1 – Machine setup, our vmware is now ready for ODI installation.

Install ODI 12c

Back to our source, unzip the two odi files

unzip fmw_12.2.1.3.0_odi_Disk1_1of2.zip
unzip fmw_12.2.1.3.0_odi_Disk1_2of2.zip

Install ODI attempt 1

Run installer

java -jar fmw_12.2.1.3.0_odi.jar

image027

Failure… not a good start. The OpenJDK JVM is not supported on this platform.

I check java version but all seems ok.

Seems there is an incompatibility. I decied to go for the JDK 1.8.0_131 (which is the one cited in the compatibility matrix) instead of 161.

Get the source (you need to go on oracle archive site, and copy download link to replace in following wget  (or download directly from website) :

wget --no-cookies --no-check-certificate --header "Cookie: gpw_e24=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oracle.com%2F; oraclelicense=accept-securebackup-cookie" "http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/jdk/8u131-b11/d54c1d3a095b4ff2b6607d096fa80163/jdk-8u131-linux-x64.rpm"

To be clean, I uninstall version 161…

yum remove java-1.8.0-openjdk

And

yum remove java-1.8.0-openjdk-headless

image030

Install version 131 :

yum install jdk-8u131-linux-x64.rpm

image032

Check java version

java –version

image034
We can try odi install again !

Caution: I did a few attempt of install and run out of disk space. After stoping the installer do not free the tmp space used. I attempted restart, checked processes. In the end, I removed the file manually.

Install Odi attempt 2

java -jar fmw_12.2.1.3.0_odi.jar

image037
Failure…

Not crsytal clear stack …com.jgoodies.looks.plastic.PlasticComboBoxUI.(PlasticComboBoxUI.java:88)

But this is due to missing fonts in x11. Solved (partially as we will see) with x11 fonts installation :

sudo yum install xorg-x11-fonts-*

image039

Install Odi attempt 3

java -jar fmw_12.2.1.3.0_odi.jar

image041

Yeah…   …Partial success …  …but all blank squares, seems like we are still missing some fonts.

After some research on the net. I solved issue with

sudo yum install dejavu-lgc-sans-fonts

image042

Install Odi attempt 4

java -jar fmw_12.2.1.3.0_odi.jar

Perfect. Odi binaries are now installed.

Some more tasks are necessary to be able to work with ODI. First, we need to setup the repositories. We will cover this in my next post: Installation of ODI 12.2 on Centos 7.4 – Part 3 – ODI Repository and Standalone Agent Creation.

Do not hesitate to contact us for more info.
